Water's Edge

Water's Edge
12” x 12”
An experiment to break the picture plane of the bead embroidered surface led to this three dimensional piece inspired by tidepool life. All of the urchins and anemones are constructed using peyote stitch off a bead embroidered base. The larger urchin has been stuffed with poly-fil stuffing to help insure the structural integrity of the piece. Turquoise rondells complete the tidepool area, and Japanese beads are used to embroider the sea, with peyote stitch ruffles providing the waves. The finished piece is mounted onto a painted canvas.
